Provide an early intervention and prevention role for the Mid North Coast Local Health District Drug and Alcohol Service, particularly in relation to Aboriginal communities
  • Develop, implement and evaluate an early intervention and prevention framework that promote the attributes which minimise drug an alcohol misuse.
  • Work with the drug and alcohol team to assist Aboriginal people to access drug and alcohol treatment.
    • Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. All applicants must supply either a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council. Exemption is claimed under Section 14D of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

    Selection Criteria

    Certificate IV in either Aboriginal Primary Health Care or Drug & Alcohol or a health related qualification which is appropriately similar and relevant to the job role

    Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal social and cultural issues,and the ability to develop local responses to community needs for those at risk of or already adversely affected by drug and alcohol misuse

    Demonstrated recent experience in drug and alcohol early intervention and prevention work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth, women and families including knowledge of contemporary drug and alcohol treatments and interventions

    Demonstrated community development skills including high quality communication skills in networking with government, non-government and community agencies, indigenous and other cultural groups.

    Demonstrated ability to work independently including the ability to work to a timeline with competing priorities in a computerized environment

    A current driver's licence valid to drive in NSW
